March 2006

Things have been really, really busy <8-)

Here is a stream of consciousness on all the things that have been going on….

  • The night before Harry’s birthday, Samantha lost her other front tooth. She is of course looking very cute with 3 missing teeth – her two front ones and one of her bottom side ones.
  • March 8th – My niece Briana’s first birthday back in Australia. Yes I rang <8-)
  • This also means it has been a year since we were back in Australia last. The time really flies.
  • I took Harry to see the movie Curious George. It was a great movie and Harry and I both enjoyed it. Harry is so funny when he just belly laughs in the middle of a movie. Really slap stick humor seems to trigger him the most <8-)
  • I took Sammie to see Eight Below. We both really enjoyed this one too. One scary bit which I won’t spoil. I am not sure who jumped higher, Sammie or me <8-)
  • I finally got to see The Life Aquatic. WOW! This was great. Not quite what I expected but a really quirky black comedy.
  • Lots of happenings with the Seahawks. I find the best place for Seahawk’s info these days is Mike Sando’s blog. Thanks to Bill for putting me on to this.
  • I think we have been up to Steven’s Pass 3 times in March. The kids have both come along nicely and Di and I have really enjoyed seeing them develop. Personally my skiing seems to have come along in leaps and bounds this season too. I think it is a combination of parabolic skis, loosing 40 pounds since I skied last and being a tad fitter <;-) I am feeling super comfortable charging down blues these days and it feels great!
  • Work is super busy but lots of fun. I will have to start making some posts specifically on work soon. There are a bunch of things we are doing that I want to start giving Spaces users a heads up on
  • Our coed Volleyball team finished up our season. I think we had the best season we have had – we still didn’t win any matches though <8-) Lots of games drawn at 2 games all though
  • It was my Mother In Law’s birthday too – Happy Birthday Margaret <8-)
  • Our friends the McGrath’s are moving to Germany!!!!! Can you believe that? We still can’t. Tim is staying with Microsoft but is having his first team move on nearly 13 years. With my bother and his family in London now and the McGrath’s in Germany I can predict a trip to Europe for the Phipps’s soon.
  • Happy Birthday Megan!!!!!!!!
  • I have been rereading the George RR Martin “A Song of Fire and Ice” series (see my fave book list). I think I am enjoying this even more the second time and I can’t wait to read book 4. I am about 3/8th’s of the way through book 3 again. I can’t say enough good things about this series. It is so good I have put off finishing the Robin Hobb’s, The Tawny Man series. I read Book 1 and loved it. Then I started on the Martin series thinking I would intersperse the series as I read them but I couldn’t not keep going with Martin.
  • Di and I stumbled across Huff on Shotime. WOW! We are addicted and just in time for the start of Series 2.
  • The new episodes of West Wing have been great but it is disappointing to know the series is coming to an end <8-(
  • I finally caught Sin City – WOW. I loved it. They really succeeded in bringing the feel of a graphic novel to the screen
  • I cancelled my subscription to WOW. The post 60 end game just requires too much time that I don’t have. <8-(
  • As you can see from my Xbox modules I have been playing some 360. I LOVE PGR3. It does suffer from issues with having been obviously rushed to market, however it is still a great game. I am working on all plats now. Kameo has been a surprise to me too.  I need to actually play some PGR3 competitively
  • The kids had Spring Break last week. Sammie was at a horse riding camp and she had a ball. She loves horses. Harry (dare I say mini-me) was booked in for a science camp but it was cancelled at the last moment due to lack of sign ups. Di, great mum that she is, bought some science kits to do with Harry instead.  One of them was a Sea Monkeys kit. I always remember seeing these ads for these in old comic books as I was growing up. I can’t wait to see what they are like. He also got an Ant Farm.
  • I must be getting old… I really like James Blunt’s song “You’re Beautiful”
  • I am writing this while listening to my all time fave radio station TripleJ (yes its Australian – do yourself a favor and listen to the live stream for a bit) after spending a day coding for the Messenger Download site

What a month!!!! What’s scary is I am sure I have missed some stuff <8-)
